It all started in 1986, when Joel got his first computer, a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A. His first program was a survey he made for his sister to find out what she wanted on her pizza when they went for dinner as a family. Jumping ahead to 2002, Joel worked on various HTML and MP3 projects, while a programmer at an FM radio station. While there, a friend approached him about designing and developing an ecommerce site for a large tool distributor in upstate NY. Accepting the challenge, Joel thought it would be fun to start up a web design company on the side, and just needed a name to call it. One night, before putting his 4 year old daughter to bed, they were playing with some foam letters. While spelling out words together, they found the letter X stuck inside of a letter D. This sparked some creativity, so Joel went to the internet that night,and looked up short domain names with DX in it. He came across dxweb.net, made a logo and a website, and launched DX Web Solutions. In 2005, he and his family decided to move back to Gainesville, Florida where they were from, since he could still service his national clients from there. In 2006, Joel met Conor Mancone, a very experienced programmer, and hired him to work on several projects. In 2009, Joel made the big move out of working at his kitchen table, Starbucks, or wherever there was coffee and WiFi, and found a small office space in NW Gainesville. A year later, he moved into the Historic Seagle Building, where DX WEB is today. Continuing to subcontract out whatever he could, he began to see the economy around him as being unstable, and made a decision to do what he could to help. He began to work on a long term plan to grow the company, increase its service offering, and create jobs. He continues to broaden his abilities in the digital media industry by R&D, Conferences, and fulfilling clients' needs.
Conor built his first web application in 2001, and has never stopped since. He became a part of DX WEB in 2006 while attending UF as a full time student studying Physics and Astronomy. In December of 2012 Conor graduated with a PhD in Astronomy and chose the adventure of continuing to work with DX WEB, LLC. Conor has used programming to estimate bulk galaxy properties from stellar models, build complete ecommerce solutions, generate PSF-matched photometry from disparate image sets, and just about everything else in-between.
